How Much Fat Can Liposuction Remove?

By admin June 18, 2020

Trying to eliminate pockets of excess fat that accumulate on the abdomen, hips, thighs and other areas of the body can be a frustrating process. Often, diet and exercise on their own are just not sufficient. In such cases, many people who want to achieve more aesthetically pleasing body contours turn to liposuction, which has been one of the most popular cosmetic surgery techniques for more than three decades. This safe, proven procedure has allowed millions of patients to improve their figures through the precise targeting and removal of isolated deposits of fat. Liposuction is a potentially ideal solution for anyone looking to refine and rejuvenate their contours.

It’s a common misconception that liposuction is a weight-loss procedure. Unlike lap band or gastric bypass surgeries that are designed to help people lose dramatic amounts of weight from all over their bodies, liposuction will remove fat from cosmetically targeted areas. Though you shouldn’t get liposuction with the motivation of shedding pounds quickly, many patients do see significant improvements in certain areas of the body that are often resistant to diet and exercise.

How much fat liposuction can remove will depend on several aspects including your body type, the area to be treated and your desired results. The maximum amount of fat that can safely be removed from any one patient during a single liposuction treatment is no more than 6,000 ml (6 liters or approximately 12 lbs. of fat/fluid aspirate). Now, this does not mean you lose 12 lbs. It means that your fat, your blood, and the tumescent fluid infused and removed will equal about this amount. If more fat needs to be removed, separate liposuction treatments will be needed.

Liposuction permanently removes fat cells. As long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle with a nutritious diet and exercise routine, you should be able to enjoy your newly contoured curves for years to come.
